Peace Direct is an international charity that works with local people to stop violence and build sustainable peace in some of the world’s most fragile conflict affected areas. They believe passionately in non-violence and the power of local action. Led by local people, they tackle the causes of violence at the root, and rebuild lives after war has torn communities apart. They are dedicated to making peace a practical option, ensuring local people have the skills and resources to make it a reality.

This includes supporting people at risk of joining armed groups to become productive members of society; helping those who were caught up in the violence, either as combatants or people whose lives were destroyed by violence, to rebuilt their lives; supporting local people to mediate between warring sides and to respond quickly to escalating tensions; and to help people seek justice for crimes committed during times of war.

Head of Individual Giving, Ruth Tidy, is looking forward to the upcoming challenges from the Rainmaker Foundation’s Charity Accelerator. “Engagement with new groups and increased visibility, reach and messaging to the general public would lead to increased advocacy for our work worldwide.”

In 12 years they have supported local peace building organisations in over 25 countries around the world, providing vital assistance to ensure grass roots action stopping conflict and violence can continue, and grow.
